You all know Windows Vista is a resource hungry operating system and getting performance out of Windows Vista is really a tricky task.
You might be using an external drive for transfer of data and you might encounter slow performance with this drive.
But, you can improve the performance of your external drive by enabling write behind caching feature.
By default, this option is disabled in Windows Vista and you will have to enable it in order to improve the performance of your external drive.
To enable the “write behind caching” option go to Control Panel and type “Device Manager“  in the search box on the top right corner.

Select your external hard drive and right click to view the properties.

Tick the checkbox that shows “enable write caching”.
This will allow you to improve the performance of your external drive. Enjoy the increased performance in Windows Vista.

Just change the setting to “Optimize for performance” and hit OK to continue. You’ll have to reboot for the setting to take effect.
