How to Download Microsoft Update

 First Try to Enable the Automatic Update process. If no good then you can reset or reinstall Updates as in step 2 on this page
 Critical Steps, Suggested for advanced users only, you may also download and run this tool to Fix Update Errors, 

Enable Automatic Updates

 Click On start >> run Tupe >> services.msc >> Ok
 Double click the service “Automatic Updates”.
 Click on the Log On tab, please ensure the option “Local System account” is selected and the option “Allow service to interact with desktop” is unchecked
 Check if this service has been enabled on the listed Hardware Profile. If not, please click the Enable button to enable it.
 Click Start->Run, type “services.msc” (without quotation marks) in the open box and click OK.
  Double click the service “Automatic Updates”.
  Click on the Log On tab, please ensure the option “Local System account” is selected and the option “Allow service to interact with desktop” is unchecked.Click on the tab “General “; make sure the “Startup Type” is “Automatic”.
 Then please Click the button “Start” under “Service Status” to start the service.
 Repeat the above steps with the other service: Background Intelligent Transfer Service          

Solution 2

 Reset, Repair or Reinstall Automatic Updates
 This process will repair or reinstall Automatic update module.
 Repair Automatic Updates to Fix SVCHOST.exe error (Not For Vista)
 How to Repair Automatic Updates
 Copy The content in the below boc and paste it in notepad

 %windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\wuaueng.dll
 %windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\wuaueng1.dll
 %windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\wucltui.dll
 %windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\wups.dll
 %windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\wuweb.dll
 net start bits
 net start wuauserv
 wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow

 Save it to desktop as reinstall.cmd. Double click on reinstall.cmd to run it.
 This will repair the automatic update service and re – register the dlls.
 If no good then you can Reinstall the Automatic update module

 How to Remove & Reinstall Automatic Updates to fix SVCHOST.exe error (Not For Vista)

 Save it to desktop as reinstall.cmd. Double click on reinstall.cmd to run it.
 This will remove the automatic update system and downloaded files. Then reinstall the automatci update moudle, starts the services and looks for updates
