How to re-establish “Show Hidden Files” Option in Windows Vista

Tech Advice 1

In the past, I received numerous emails asking me how to get back the “Show Hidden Files and Folders” option in the Folder Options dialog.
The good part is that I found a registry tweak that will bring back this option.
9 out of 10 people have this problem and as per my knowledge the only reason behind this problem is spyware infected computer system.
Note: Spyware removal software will not be able to restore this option but performing a scan will ensure that all spywares are removed from your system.

Manual Registry Tweak

Open run window by pressing WIN Key + R. Type “regedit” and press Enter. This will open the registry editor. Navigate to the following:
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden
Search for key named “Type” and change the value to “group”.
If you are unable to find any such key then create a new key
Now, check the folder options dialog and your “Show Hidden Files and Folders” option is back.
