If you are using a subnet and you are having problems talking to another subnet through TCP/IP, the following step can help you to determine if the problem is with the router.

How to Test a TCP/IP Router

Step 1

 Click on Start >> Click on Run
 Type in The Run Box >> CMD
 Ok
 Now Type In the CMD Box
 ping your system IP

If this PING works, your node is probably okay.

 Click on Start >> Click on Run
 Type in The Run Box
 CMD
 Ok
 Now Type In the CMD Box
 ping IP of the nearby system on the same network.

If this PING works, this side of the router is okay.

 Click on Start >> Click on Run
 Type in The Run Box
 CMD
 Ok
 Now Type In the CMD Box
 ping ip of the system of different network

If this PING works, the router is working.

 Click on Start >> Click on Run
 Type in The Run Box
 CMD
 Ok
 Now Type In the CMD Box
 ping ip of the remote host computer
 If this works, TCP/IP should be working fine.
